Tags
Label sessions automatically by rule or manually per session. Filter, export, and analyse by tag across your entire session history.
What tags do
Tags are colour-coded labels you apply to sessions. They let you group sessions by campaign, experiment, traffic type, or any other dimension you define, independently of the built-in nine-channel classification. A session can carry more than one tag.
Creating a tag rule
Go to Attribution → Tags → New Rule. Each rule has three parts:
- Tag name and colour — the label that appears in the Sessions report
- Match condition — UTM parameter value, URL pattern, or date range
- Apply retroactively — whether to run the rule against existing session history
Retroactive bulk apply
When you enable retroactive apply, the rule runs against every session already in the database that matches the condition. This is safe to run more than once on the same rule — sessions already tagged are not double-tagged. Use this when you add a tag after a campaign has already run and want to label its historical sessions.
Manual tagging
Open any session row in the Sessions report and use the tag picker to apply a tag directly. Manual tags and rule-based tags coexist on the same session.
Tags in exports and filters
Applied tags appear as a column in the CSV export. The Sessions report filter includes a tag selector, so you can export only sessions carrying a specific tag. This is useful for isolating campaign traffic for reporting.
